Technology for deep excavation using a DROP-BOTTOM lifting dump bulk container system.

KJB Engineering Pty Ltd has developed a deep excavation lifting bulk container system with bottom-opening doors for discharge of the container’s content. The system provides a competitive solution at excavation sites where the applications of excavators or conveyor systems reach their limits of operation.

The system consists of a lifting bulk container with bottom doors for discharging the soil/rock, supported by a structure for direct disposal of the content into a truck or trailer. The application is most valuable at deep excavation at inner city sites where space restrictions play an important factor.

The bulk container with bottom-opening doors has its independent power-pack and, combined with a logic controller, the door opening cycle of the bottom doors is locked, preventing the doors from opening accidently while the container is lifted. For opening the bottom doors the bulk container will be positioned on the discharge support structure to release the content into a truck or trailer below, as shown at Figure 1 and 2.

The logic controller prevents that the bulk container’s doors open during lifting operations. Opening of the bottom doors requires that the bulk container is less than half a metre of an adjacent surface, such as the ground or the discharge structure. Furthermore, the discharge of the bulk container’s has been designed to take place while the bulk container is resting on a support structure with the truck or trailer positioned below for direct discharge of the content.

The DROP-BOTTOM bulk container system is a clear alternative for deep excavation sites and has a clear advantage and even outperforms the conventional method of multiple excavators operation at different levels, as shown at Figure 3.

The application of the bulk container systems is independent of the excavation depth and with its concept of direct filling by excavators and the discharge of the content into a truck or trailer at street level, the system has an advantage at inner city, deep excavation sites where space is limited, as shown at Figure 4 and 2.
